Tickets will be available via a ballot from Midday 31st August with tickets priced at a £15 and all money raised will go directly to Shelter. For more information, please visit – shelter.org.uk/gimmeshelter.

Acts confirmed today for Gimme Shelter x Book Slam include cult author John Niven (Kill Your Friends), The Maccabees’ front man Orlando Weeks, who will exclusively read from his debut picture book ‘The Gritterman’, Pussy Riot’s Maria Alyokhina, who will read from ‘Riot Days’ her account of her arrest, trial and imprisonment, author David Nicholls (One Day, Starter for Ten), performance poet, songwriter and author Laura Dockrill and comedian Rob Carter.

Speaking of taking part in the event, Orlando Weeks said ‘‘I’m excited to be taking part in my first Book Slam event for Shelter. It’s heartbreaking that in 2017 so many people are struggling with homelessness and bad housing – this needs to change. So enter the ballot for a chance to join me and some wonderful authors and support Shelter at the same time”

Polly Neate, CEO of Shelter, said: “We’re hugely excited to relaunch Gimme Shelter this September with a programme of exciting cultural events, and call on the public to join us in the fight against bad housing and homelessness. The series wouldn’t be possible without the support of the artists who’ve kindly donated their time, and for that we’re incredibly grateful.”

Gimme Shelter, Shelter’s annual series of cultural events is back this autumn to highlight Shelter’s core belief that everyone should have a safe, secure and affordable place to call home. Sadly, more people than ever need access to Shelter’s vital services and every day, up and down the country, Shelter provides invaluable support to those struggling desperately, to keep a roof over their heads or living in terrible and often dangerous conditions.

Through the ‘Gimme Shelter’ series of events, Shelter is calling on the public to stand alongside them in the fight against bad housing and homelessness.
