NEW ALBUM OUT OCTOBER 16 VIA MR BONGO RECORDS
TRACKS ‘WHO KNOWS’ FEATURING CHRONNIX AND ‘ANSWER TO YOUR NAME’ WILL BE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 23 AS A DOUBLE A-SIDE
Protoje will release his third album, ‘Ancient Future’ in the UK on October 16th through Mr Bongo Records. Tracks ‘Who Knows’ feat. Chronnix and ‘Answer To Your Name’ will be released the following week on October 23 as a double A-side.

Protoje along with his long time band and collaborators, The Indiggnation, are at the forefront of what is being described as the “Reggae Revival” currently happening in Jamaica. Considering Protoje’s heritage his place in the revival is unsurprising, his father was a calypso king from St. Vincent known as Lord Have Mercy and his mother the successful reggae singer, Lorna Bennett.
Protoje said,
“We are doing this on our own, with not much help from government. I am proud that we are building a movement. It’s like a child that you can see growing and evolving. It’s growing exponentially, but that was the plan… We are standing on the shoulders of giants. I grew up respecting the craft. There was that golden era of reggae music when everyone looked to Jamaica. I know the history, I know the impact reggae music can have, and I want to be part of an era that brings it back to that stature”
In January of this year Protoje was chosen as one of BBC 1 Xtra’s Hot for 2015 Artists, alongside the likes of Stormzy, George The Poet and Lion Babe. Two of the album tracks were made exclusively available earlier this year on Toddla T’s mixtape, ‘England Be Wise.’
‘Ancient Future’ was produced by Winta James (Damian Marley, Anthony B, The Mighty Diamonds) and recorded in Jamaica. The album references five decades of reggae music, Protoje said:
“This album is really based on the fact that I wanted to capture the history of Jamaican music from the 60s to now with a modern update to it all. Not just playing over stuff from that time, but really adding to it.”
