Indie icons and NME’s current Godlike Genius recipients Suede will play a special gig as part of the showcase, with their critically-acclaimed ‘Night Thoughts’ live set where the band perform the full album behind a projection of the accompanying feature film. They will follow this with a storming second set of classics, fan favourites and rarities. Returning indie heroes Mystery Jets, who will be releasing their new record ‘Curve Of The Earth’ in January, will also feature, while hyped newcomers Swim Deep are set to wow crowds with the baggy sensibilities of their second album ‘Mothers’.
Meanwhile, Boots – one of the most exciting breaking acts in new music – will bring some electronic pop to this year’s shows. Known for producing tracks for Beyoncé, Run The Jewels and FKA Twigs, Boots will step into the spotlight to show off tracks from his solo debut ‘Aquaria’.
Australian powerhouses King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, who played mesmerising sets at festivals this year, have just released their psych-heavy LP ‘Paper Mâché Dream Balloon’. Hailing from New York are Public Access TV, a four-piece who’ve been called one of America’s most exciting new bands. Since springing to fame, the band have joined the bill at SXSW, CMJ and The Great Escape Festival and will now headline a night at the NME Awards Shows 2016 with Austin, Texas on 25 Feb at Birthdays.
Rising Stockport indie-rock band Blossoms, who have been announced as part of the BBC Music Sound of 2016 longlist and recently released their latest EP ‘Charlemagne’, will be bringing to fans what they describe as the sound of “ethereal nostalgic solace”.
Mike Williams, editor-in-chief of NME, says: “I cannot wait for the NME Awards Shows 2016 with Austin, Texas to kick off. This year’s line-up brings together some of the most exciting new talent on the planet, as well as old favourites to the best venues in London.”
