A LIMITED CAPSULE OF GRAPHIC T-SHIRTS INSPIRED BY THE CITY OF DETROIT
Today APPLIED ART FORMS launches its new capsule titled ‘Cosmic Transmissions: Spirit of Detroit’, available for purchase now via www.appliedartforms.com. The new, limited capsule features a number of screen-printed graphic T-shirts inspired by the city of Detroit – which A/A/F creative director and founder Guy Berryman says has influenced him more than any other city through his passion for Motown, electronic music and automobiles.
‘Cosmic Transmissions: Spirit of Detroit’ features nine different graphic T-shirts screen-printed by hand in the APPLIED ART FORMS studio, giving a unique hand-made feel to each piece. The designs take inspiration from Detroit’s vibrant and wide-spanning cultural scene – paying homage to Detroit legends, taking inspiration from vintage automotive graphics and Detroit’s vibrant music scene. Of the collection, Guy says:
“I wanted to reflect upon the time when Detroit was in full swing – a period of time when American cars were wild and Motown was sending shockwaves across the world with hit after hit – the 1960s. Detroit is in a transitional phase right now, a city working to reinvent itself – but the joy it has given the world cannot be underestimated.”
To coincide with the launch, A/A/F will be giving a percentage of all proceeds from the new capsule collection to a chosen Detroit non-profit organisation, to be announced shortly across the A/A/F social channels. The accompanying Motown playlist celebrates the musical legacy of the city of Detroit will also be premiered on the A/A/F website.
APPLIED ART FORMS was launched in late 2020 by creative director Guy Berryman. Drawing inspiration from vintage, utilitarian and workwear clothing, A/A/F aims to reimagine and improve classic pieces, creating brand new covetable wardrobe staples that will last a lifetime. Since its launch, the brand has received widespread acclaim from the likes of WWD, FT’s How to Spend It, British GQ, Highsnobiety, Esquire UK and more.
In its debut collection, A/A/F launched a number of wardrobe staples, including standout pieces such as the Japanese cargo trousers, handcrafted in Japan from Cotton Cordura – a high quality Japanese fabric that blends the softness of cotton with the strength of nylon, and the versatile ‘Modular Parka: Full System’, which can be configured as either a tailored officer-style coat or a more traditional parka, with interchangeable hood, collars and can be varied in length.
