Today, housing and homelessness charity Shelter launches the second of its Gimme Shelter series of cultural events for Autumn 2017 – ‘Gimme Shelter – Art’.

The event at Oval Space on 2nd October will welcome leading figures from within the UK art scene – fashion designer and creative director Giles Deacon, iconic graphic artist and print designer Anthony Burrill and award-winning performance artist and contemporary photographer Juno Calypso for a night in conversation. The trio will discuss their work, using art for social change, creative industries in London and the impact of housing on emerging artists and their creativity. Tickets will be available via a ballot from 9AM 14th September with tickets priced at £15 at: www.shelter.org.uk/art

Of the event, Anthony Burrill said: “I’m very excited to be working with Shelter again and this time for Gimme Shelter art event. As the ‘Enough is Enough’ letterpress print I created for the 50th anniversary of Shelter last year said, we need to shout about these issues in order to inform and engage people to support Shelter’s vital work. This is such an important event and I’m looking forward to sharing the night with two other talented artists.”

Of the event, Giles Deacon said: “I’m thrilled to be taking part in Shelter’s Gimme Shelter series of events. Homelessness is such a significant issue in London and across the country and I’m excited to be working with other talented artists to raise awareness for a great cause.”

Polly Neate, CEO of Shelter, said: “We’re hugely excited to relaunch Gimme Shelter this September with a programme of exciting cultural events, and call on the public to join us in the fight against bad housing and homelessness. The series wouldn’t be possible without the support of the artists who’ve kindly donated their time, and for that we’re incredibly grateful.”

Gimme Shelter, Shelter’s annual series of cultural events is back this autumn to highlight Shelter’s core belief that everyone should have a safe, secure and affordable place to call home. Sadly, more people than ever need access to Shelter’s vital services and every day, up and down the country, Shelter provides invaluable support to those struggling desperately, to keep a roof over their heads or living in terrible and often dangerous conditions.

Through the ‘Gimme Shelter’ series of events, Shelter is calling on the public to stand alongside them in the fight against bad housing and homelessness. The first event, Gimme Shelter x Book Slam takes place tonight, 14th September and features Orlando Weeks – The Maccabees, Maria Alyokhina Pussy Riot, John Niven, David Nicholls, Laura Dockrill and Rob Carter.
